CHIPO NYAMBIYA

The mbira, a thumb piano whose origin dates back a few thousand years and whose practice belongs to the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO, emits a sound like no other, moving, uplifting.   Like her compatriot Stella Chiweshe, Chipo Nyambiya is one of the few women to play this magical instrument. Confident, positive, go-getter, Chipo Nyambiya is one of those singers whose vocal flights lay bare her authenticity. The folk-pop songs of the one who graduated in musicology from the University of Great Zimbabwe are intended to bring people together.

Alice Chipo Nyambiya is a musician, instrumentalist, model and actress. Her stage name is Chipo Nyambiya. She plays the mbira and the kalimba (traditional instruments from Zimbabwe).

From an early age, she has had a passion for music. At the age of 9, she joined her school choir in third grade. She studied music for years and obtained a degree in musicology and ethno-choregy.

“I love music so much that I've had dreams, plans or visions of becoming a musician since a young age. My greatest gift from God was to go to the University of Great Zimbabwe and join its marching band. From there, the passion intensified, to the point that I told myself that I had to take seriously all the opportunities that came my way”.

She performed with the group Team Fusion from 2016 to 2018 and has toured many African countries. In Zimbabwe, the Team fusion band played in many festivals like Hifa and shared the stage with great artists like Jah prayzah, Hope Masike, the late Oliver Mtukudzi and Thomas Mapfumo.

In 2018, Chipo represented Zimbabwe in the United States in a competition called WCOPA (World Championships of Performing Arts).
